The great majority of us live a life that is considerably more cluttered than it needs to be. School papers, everyday bulk mail, packaging, saddle shoes, love beads, leisure suits, not to mention magazines from decades hence, board games no one ever plays anymore, broken umbrellas and sports equipment… the list sometimes seems endless.
The good news is there are ways to de-clutter your life and help your family to do the same. The art of de-cluttering starts with the things that can be gotten rid of today and you can then work backward to get rid of all the old junk that has accumulated over the years.
Go through old clothes and throw out any items you have not worn for more than 12 months. Once this is done, throw out an old item of clothing every time you add a new one to you or your children’s wardrobe. Other things to keep a lookout for include old prescriptions, duplicate or old telephone books, electronics, empty CD and DVD cases, broken toys, used up notebooks and so on.
Spend twenty minutes per day in one area in your home and de-clutter. You will be surprised at how quickly you can cut down on the unnecessary junk in your home – and just how much there really is.
