It’s no secret that we live in a fast-paced, technology-driven world. The days of lazy summer afternoons sitting on the porch swing sipping lemonade have been replaced with long hours in front of a television and gaming console.

It doesn’t have to be this way – at least not all the time. If you find yourself telling your kids about things back in “your” day, it’s time to do more than just tell them – show them what life was like in simpler times. Here are just a few ideas:

• Board games – replace the game consoles with old-fashioned board games like Monopoly, The Game of Life or one of your other childhood favorites.
• Make a family fun night – Gather up the kids and head to your local drive-in movie theatre or roller skating rink.
• One of my favorite childhood memories is sitting around the dining room table building jigsaw puzzles with my grandparents. This is a great activity for rainy days in the summer or cold, snow days in the winter.

There are plenty of ways to bring back some good, old-fashioned family fun and introduce your kids to a life from days gone by.
